BS Digital Cinema Program
Tenure-track Faculty Opening

The School of Film and Animation (SoFA) at RIT is pursuing applicants to design and teach courses in feature film and television technologies. The Digital Cinema program seeks to train students in the fundamental scientific and engineering principles used throughout the contemporary motion picture production chain. The program was inaugurated with its first freshman class in the 2006-2007 academic year and is designed as a joint effort between SoFA and the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science (CIS) of the RIT College of Science. Topics will include film and digital image capture, digital image processing, film scanning, digital intermediate and television post-production techniques, visual effects, film recording, and traditional and digital exhibition. It is preferred that the applicant has specialization in digital image processing and hardware design pursuant to the motion picture industry. In addition to a full teaching load, responsibilities include advising students, assisting in curriculum development, participating in research and scholarship, and providing service to the institute, college, and department.

Qualifications

Required

• M.S. in engineering or scientific discipline appropriate to motion picture technology development
• Minimum five years of professional experience in the design/manufacturing/application of products or services utilized in the motion picture industry
• Competence in contemporary motion picture workflows and technologies, including scanning, spatial image processing, and digital image capture and exhibition
• Understanding of basic color science and digital color manipulation

Preferred

• Teaching experience at the college level
• Ph.D. in appropriate scientific or engineering discipline
• Extensive motion picture post-production experience
• Technical publication record and industrial research experience
• Strong digital image processing, hardware and software design skills
